Reading the Old Fashioned Way

There is so much character in an aged book that has passed down from generation to generation. In spite of all the technological gizmos and digitization of information, books firmly preserve their important place in the world of knowledge.

Some things in life have a certain charm and character. Be it an old jewelery box, a memorable Christmas ornament, or a favorite book owned by grandfather. Special memories of the holiday are created here , or you can enjoy scrapbooking, a wonderful resource for family memories. Certain things are perfect to pass on as heirlooms.

The very nature of book reading as an activity is solitary and provides the perfect setting for quiet reflection; something that is rapidly disappearing from our lives. With ubiquitous entertainment options, our attention spans reduce and we are no longer as accustomed to quiet entertainment as our predecessors.

TV and movies constantly supply us with a string of images, in bright colour and digital sound. Books cannot provide that, but what they do provide is food for imagination. Reading books can encourage the mind to form images and visualise, instead of being spoon fed someone else's vision on screen!

Reading books can also increase the power to concentrate. Unlike TV today which is characterised by short flashing clips or images, a book is a constant narrative, and teaches the mind to concentrate on it. No matter how much we progress, one activity that certainly does not deserve to become obsolete is reading books.
