London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund

The Charity Awards 2006, Winner and Highly CommendedWelcome to the London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund website. It is designed to give you information about the work of the Fund and how we have helped those affected by the events of 7th July 2005.

The Fund has now closed, having completed the job for which it was set up: to distribute the money that was raised by others as quickly as possible to the victims of the 7th July attacks, and to do it with the minimum of red tape.

Financial help

Between July 2005 and July 2006 the Fund launched five grant programmes:

  • in July and August 2005 giving interim help to the victims of the bombings
  • in September and November 2005 and again in March and July 2006 giving bigger grants to those worst affected

Thanks to the generosity of our donors we were able to make some additional final payments in October 2006 to those most seriously injured, and a further donation to enhance the work of the 7th July Assistance Centre which is providing a range of support to all those affected by the bombings.

Those we have helped include:

  • people who lost loved ones in the attacks
  • people who have suffered serious and permanent injury in the bombings requiring sustained specialist medical attention.
  • people who spent time in hospital because they were close to the bombs.
  • people who because they were close to the bombs have been certified as unfit and unable to work for a substantial period of time.

The money from the London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund could not compensate the victims for what they have suffered. It was simply intended to help people to rebuild their lives following the tragic events of 7th July. The main source of compensation for victims of the bombings is the Government’s statutory Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.
